Uber has partnered with drivers of black cabs to expand its services in London.

Drivers of the traditional hackney cabs can now sign up with Uber, with the service officially rolled out early next year.

Uber has already partnered with taxi drivers in 33 countries including Paris, New York and Rome. The company said the number is growing, with over ten per cent of Uber trips completed by taxi drivers in Europe and the Middle East.

Drivers that sign up to Uber will be dispatched a regular taxi trip with an upfront fare range and destination for the trip and can choose to accept or reject the offer. The company added that all new drivers will benefit from 0 per cent commission for their first six months.

“We’re partnering with taxi drivers across the world and the message we are hearing from them is clear – Uber and taxis are better together,” said Andrew Brem, general manager of Uber UK. “Black Cabs are an iconic part of the capital, loved by Londoners and visitors alike, and we are proud to work side by side.

“The partnership is win-win-win: helping London cab drivers earn more, boosting travel options for passengers and making London’s transport network more efficient.”
